The WilderKitchen Ethical & Sustainability Statement:
At The WilderKitchen, we are dedicated to producing exceptional chilli-infused honey products while upholding ethical standards and promoting sustainability across all of our ingredients.
Our commitment extends from the sourcing of ingredients to the packaging of our products, ensuring that every aspect of our operation aligns with our values.
Bee-Friendly Honey:
WilderBee Hot Honey is made with bee-friendly honey sourced from apiaries that prioritise ethical beekeeping practices. The bee colonies that provide our honey thrive without exposure to common unethical practices and unnecessary human intervention. We steadfastly avoid harmful practices such as overharvesting, wing clipping and artificial insemination, fostering a natural and sustainable environment for our bees. Our bees are happy bees, taking only what we need - leaving the bees with ample honey reserves to sustain them through the winter months in the most humane manner possible.
Our apiary partners are committed to sustainable farming with particular regard to using energy as efficiently as possible. We campaign for the eradication of the unlicensed use of chemical and veterinary medicines in the production of honey as such we guarantee that we do not use Naptholenic acid, Paradichlorobenzine, Fumagilin or Tau Fluvalinate or any other medication in any of our suppliers bee keeping or honey producing operations. We are fully committed to non chemical intervention to ensure the very best practice in our bee keeping operations.
Supporting Cooperative Beekeepers:
In addition, our apiary partners collaborate with cooperative beekeepers globally, assisting them in obtaining organic certification whether organic product or not, and maintaining high ethical standards.
This partnership ensures fair and sustainable market access, empowering beekeepers and contributing to the global effort to protect and care for bees.
Sustainable Chilli Growing:
Our scotch bonnet chillies are proudly grown in Rwanda by a producer committed to community prosperity and environmental sustainability. Supervised by experienced agronomists and using approved British seeds, the chilli farming ensures authenticity, quality, and optimal growth. Though our grower - the local workers are paid well above fair wages, provided free education for the children of employees, while also helping to actively engage employees with the new Peacebuilding Education programme.
To aid in the carbon offset of our supply, the farm is cultivating several hectares of land to grow agave plants and avocado trees which are known for their carbon sequestering properties.
Recyclable & Post Consumer Recycled Packaging:
We are mindful of our environmental impact at every stage of production, including packaging. Our retail products are packaged in 100% post consumer recycled plastic bottles, ensuring that our commitment to sustainability extends beyond the product itself. This is a key step to reducing waste, cutting down on virgin plastic use, and further lowering carbon emissions and energy taken to transport and recycle heavier materials such as glass.
Continuous Improvement:
We are committed to continuous improvement in all aspects of our operations. We actively seek opportunities to enhance sustainability, ethical practices, and community engagement throughout our supply chain. Transparency and accountability are fundamental to our ethos, and we welcome feedback from our customers and stakeholders to ensure that we consistently uphold our ethical standards.
